The pen holder features a honeycomb (or cellular) hollow structure, where circular openings are arranged in a pattern that’s both regular and subtly varied, evoking the intricate tissue networks found in the microscopic world. This design not only lends the pen holder an airy, translucent appearance but also creates a distinctive visual rhythm through the interplay of solid and void: as light filters through the perforations, it casts delicate patterns of shadow and light across the desk; when your fingers gently trace the hollowed surface, you can feel the subtle, undulating texture of the curved forms, breaking free from the monotony of traditional pen holders.

Thanks to the advantages of layer‑by‑layer manufacturing combined with digital modeling in 3D printing, I was able to pre‑design complex hollow structures in software—forms like “continuous surfaces with uniformly spaced holes” would be nearly impossible to achieve through manual crafting. Then, using the printer’s layer‑by‑layer deposition process, I transformed these virtual designs into tangible, three‑dimensional objects. The white printing material—whether PLA or resin—gives the piece a soft, matte finish that feels both minimalist and sophisticated, while the visible “layer lines” (if left intact) add a touch of handmade warmth to the overall aesthetic.
