This pair of earrings draws inspiration from the classic taotie motif found on Shang and Zhou dynasty bronzes. The origin of this motif can be traced back to ancient texts such as the “Lüshi Chunqiu,” which describes the “Zhou cauldron adorned with a taotie—having a head but no body.” The taotie is an awe-inspiring mythical creature from ancient Chinese mythology.
In the design, the main body takes the form of an imposing animal head, with iridescent sequins inlaid into the eyes to capture the deep, enigmatic aura of the animal eyes seen on antique bronzes as light shifts across their surfaces. The meander and cloud-scroll patterns on the face replicate the solemn texture of Shang and Zhou bronze decorations, while the begonia-shaped openwork frame at the edges incorporates the traditional form of jade pendants. The overall matte dark-gray finish evokes the weighty, aged patina of antique bronzes, encapsulating the mysterious aesthetic of the taotie motif within a compact space and presenting a Chinese-style accessory that seamlessly blends historical gravitas with contemporary elegance.
PS:
① Reproduction or commercial use without permission is strictly prohibited. Please respect original works. Thank you.
② You can customize the piece by adding gemstones according to your preference; however, you will need to purchase an additional earring post separately. I printed this at a layer height of 0.08 mm using PETG filament in a color of your choice.
③ If you wish to print smaller earrings, we recommend switching to a 0.02 mm nozzle and setting the lowest possible layer height for exceptionally fine detail. Alternatively, you can scale up the model to create pendants, luggage tags, or other versatile items.
④ Leave a small area on the model for adhesive curing—apply UV glue mixed with gold powder and allow it to harden. You can also customize the piece with your own preferred gemstones, making it a one-of-a-kind creation just for you.
⑤ Since I dislike removing supports, I simply print the design flat. If you want a three-dimensional effect, just print two identical parts and glue them together.
