The sixteenth Cat Tarot card, which is the fifteenth card—The Devil—can be customized with additional parts to become a hanging plaque, used as a bookmark, or employed for divination. By attaching a magnetic sheet to the back, it can even serve as a refrigerator magnet, offering a wide range of uses!

The Major Arcana card The Devil corresponds closely in theme and message to the sixth card, The Lovers; the only difference is that the angelic cat has been transformed into a devilish feline, turning what was once romantic love into an endless obsession with desire. The Devil cat sports bat-like wings and ram’s horns, symbolizing primal instincts and a rugged, untamed nature.

At this moment, Adam and Eve, consumed by their lustful desires, can no longer hear the angels’ blessings; all they hear are the curses of the infernal demons. What was once romance and warmth has now become a binding shackle, like a yoke around their necks, firmly chaining them to the Devil’s feet. The original cycle of material, spiritual, and moral fulfillment has been upended, leaving behind nothing but the relentless pursuit of material goods and sensual pleasures. The former exchange between emotion and reason has been severed, replaced by mutual bondage.

However, the Devil cat is not inherently “bad”; it is simply depicted as such, which is why The Devil card is not truly a “bad” card. At its core, The Devil represents humanity’s primordial joy, vitality, and instinctual drive—along with the natural affinity and pure, ecstatic delight that come from these forces. Yet depending on the social context and specific circumstances in which this energy is channeled, entirely different outcomes can arise.

The Devil card seeks pure, primal, and boundless joy, making it ideally suited for development within the arts and entertainment industries. It is under the Devil’s radiant influence that timeless works of art are born, the entertainment sector thrives, and partygoers revel to their heart’s content. Nevertheless, the moral risks associated with The Devil card are unavoidable. In a society that values freedom and spontaneity, there is more room for the card’s energy to flourish; conversely, in more restrictive environments, it can pose greater dangers. No matter the time or place, and however one defines the boundaries of morality, navigating these lines remains an art in itself.

As for other traditional forms of divination, especially when the querent holds strong conventional moral or materialistic views, The Devil card often carries a rather pessimistic interpretation. The individual may find themselves unable to exercise self-control, becoming ensnared in their own desires. Once the card deviates from its fundamental focus on simple, unadulterated joy and begins to imbue itself with money, power, fame, possessiveness, and the like, the raw vitality and innate happiness are tainted. This is why today we tend to interpret The Devil as representing temptation, craving, and possession. Those who remain fixated on worldly and material concerns repeatedly fall into the same trap: mistaking possession for love, equating money with happiness and freedom, and viewing power and fame as signs of personal strength. In the end, however, they become trapped in the very material pursuits they chase, growing ever farther from what they truly desire—and increasingly distant from genuine joy. This only deepens their obsessive attachment to these pursuits, ultimately leading them down a path straight to hell.

The card face is an original design, measuring 8×12 cm with a thickness of 2.8 mm.
