Nick grew up living with his mother in modest circumstances. As a child, he dreamed of joining the Junior Ranger Scouts. When he was eight or nine, his mother finally saved enough money to buy him a scout uniform, hoping it would help him fit in with the group. However, unbeknownst to him, as the only carnivore on the team, Nick soon became the target of bullying and verbal abuse from his peers. Terrified, he fled the campsite and hid in a corner, quietly weeping. That night, he learned two lessons that would shape his entire life: first, never let others see his vulnerable side; and second, since the world at large views foxes as cunning and untrustworthy, there’s no point in trying to prove otherwise.
