  • Vacuum pump

A vacuum pump designed for 3D-printed vacuum-sealed bags, significantly speeding up the evacuation process (the original eight-piece vacuum pump was painfully slow!).

The bill of materials is as follows:

M3×5×4 hot-melt nuts ×8

M3×6 or screws no longer than 14 mm ×8

Marine-style switch ×1

2-port 220V input socket ×1

Pneumatic connector (I don’t think it’s necessary; after using it, I feel it’s better off without, or just replace it with a smaller one)

Vacuum pump (plenty available on PDD; you can get a black one at 20% off)

Installation tutorial:

1. Route one wire from the vacuum pump through the housing’s socket hole and solder it to the neutral terminal of the 220V outlet (it doesn’t matter which terminal you connect to).

2. Solder another wire from the other terminal of the 220V outlet, thread it through the hole, and then solder it to the switch terminal (make sure the switch wire passes through the cover plate’s hole).

After soldering the outlet, push the 220V socket into place.

3. Connect the remaining switch terminal to the other wire from the vacuum pump (again, make sure it passes through the switch mounting hole before soldering).

4. Screw out the vacuum pump’s mounting bolts, attach it directly to the mounting bracket, push it in, and secure it with hot-melt adhesive (you can also simply push it in and then fix it with hot-melt glue).

5. If there’s no pneumatic connector, connect the air hose, install hot-melt nuts in all mounting holes, and then assemble everything.

6. If you have a pneumatic connector, first install the front cover and connect the pneumatic connector, as shown in the picture above.

As for the follow-up tutorial, many of the earlier photos weren’t taken, and now that everything’s assembled, it’s impossible to disassemble. So I’d recommend against using a pneumatic connector—it’s inconvenient both to install and to use. In the future, it’s better to buy an 8-to-8 quick-release fitting; no need to mount it on a box.
