Soil Moisture Tester (Internet-Enabled)

Inspiration

To meet the need for remote soil moisture monitoring, we designed this internet-enabled soil moisture tester, tailored for small-scale gardening applications. Leveraging the ESP32’s wireless communication capabilities, it uploads real-time measurement data, allowing users to conveniently monitor soil conditions remotely.

Structural Design

The device features a modular 3D-printed housing assembled with four M3 screws. Inside, there is ample space to accommodate the ESP32 microcontroller, a 14500 lithium battery, the soil moisture sensor module, and a 0.96-inch OLED display. A probe extends from the front of the housing, enabling direct insertion into the soil for signal acquisition. The compact and well-organized layout is optimized for 3D printing.

Functional Capabilities

Powered by the ESP32, the device enables internet-connected data transmission and displays soil moisture levels along with ambient temperature and humidity in real time on the 0.96-inch OLED screen. It runs on a 14500 lithium battery, allowing autonomous operation over extended periods without external power. The integrated probe directly measures soil moisture, making it ideal for smart monitoring applications such as potted plants or small vegetable gardens.
