Wolf spiders are a general term for species belonging to the family Lycosidae within the order Araneae, class Arachnida. [4] They earn their name due to their exceptional hunting prowess, swift movements, high predation rates, and fierce temperament. Wolf spiders possess eight eyes, with the anterior eyes nearly equal in size and the posterior median eyes being the largest—serving as the primary visual organs. Their leg tips are equipped with three claws. Female wolf spiders exhibit distinctive behaviors, such as carrying egg sacs on their spinnerets and transporting their young on their abdomens, setting them apart from spiders of other families. Body sizes vary widely, ranging from about 1 mm to over 30 mm in length, and their coloration is predominantly dark gray.
