🌟 Introduction

This 3D model is an FDM/LCD–printable recreation or reinterpretation of the Jade Pig-Dragon (also known as the Jade Ring-Shaped Dragon) from the Neolithic Hongshan Culture, housed in the Liaoning Provincial Museum.

The Jade Pig-Dragon was unearthed at the Niuheliang site in Liaoning and is a hallmark artifact of the Hongshan Culture, dating back some 5,000 to 6,500 years. It symbolized status, social standing, and power, while also serving as a sacred object of totemic worship among ancient peoples—making it one of the origins of Chinese dragon culture. The emblem of the Liaoning Provincial Museum is directly inspired by this iconic piece.

• Distinctive Features: “Plump head with large ears,” with the head and tail curled and seamlessly joined, yet appearing unbroken. The head combines features of both pigs and bears, rendered in an abstract yet deeply evocative style. The body is smoothly polished, full-bodied, and imposing.
• Spiritual Meaning: The Jade Pig-Dragon served as a mediator between tribal leaders and the heavens and earth, embodying ancient peoples’ reverence for nature and the divine, and expressing prayers for divine protection, healing, and the warding off of calamities.

• Model Characteristics:
  • Perfectly captures the rugged form and delicate facial incised lines of the original artifact.
  • Retains the small hole on the back for threading a cord or string (can be printed as a necklace, car pendant, or other accessory after printing).
  • Optimized for printing on most consumer-grade 3D printers.
• Printing Recommendations (for reference only):
  • Materials: PLA or PETG (jade-colored, marble-like, or white filaments are recommended to replicate the original’s luster).
  • Layer Height: 0.12 mm to 0.2 mm (for better rendering of facial details, a finer layer height is advised).
  • Filling Density: 15%–20%.
  • Supports: Required. Due to the ring-shaped, curled structure of the head and tail, supports must be added at the abdominal region and at the bends where the head meets the body. Tree-like supports are recommended to minimize impact on surface quality.
  • Scale: Can be freely scaled as needed. The original artifact stands about 15 cm tall; you can reduce its size to create a pendant.
