The Fluttering Butterfly

With just a simple rotational motion, the butterfly’s wings begin to flap—no complex gear system required! Instead, the design leverages the shifting position of circular axles, using the up-and-down oscillations generated by rotation to drive the wing flapping action. At the heart of the design lies the clever utilization of multiple circular axles positioned at different locations. As you turn the handle, this rotational movement is transmitted through a carefully engineered mechanical structure, causing the axle positions to shift periodically throughout the rotation. These subtle positional changes are then translated into the rhythmic up-and-down motion of the butterfly’s wings, perfectly mimicking the graceful flutter of real butterfly wings.
