This is a uniquely satisfying 4D passthrough model—an evolution of my original Pointless Octagonal Passthrough (available on Printables). It features bold, angular edges and a fast, support-free print that’s perfect for showing off your printer’s precision. The geometry is clean, the motion is smooth, and it’s a great conversation piece for any maker’s desk.

To really make this model pop, I recommend using a bold or dual-color filament. A unique color scheme adds visual depth and helps highlight the intricate passthrough motion—don’t let it look boring.

Print Settings:

• Infill: 0% (the model is fully self-supporting)
• Layer Height: 0.2 mm for a clean balance of speed and detail
• Perimeters: 3 for strength and crisp edges
• Top/Bottom Layers: 4–5 for a polished finish
• Filament: PLA recommended; silk PLA or multicolor filament adds flair
• Supports: Not needed
• Brim/Raft: Not required
• Print Speed: 45–60 mm/s for best results
• Cooling: Enable part cooling for PLA
• XY Size Compensation (PrusaSlicer):
  • Go to Print Settings > Advanced > XY Size Compensation
  • Set to -0.4 for the inner piece to improve fit and tolerances

Troubleshooting Tip:
If the inner piece doesn’t fit smoothly, reprint it using the XY compensation setting above. This adjustment helps dial in the tolerances for a perfect passthrough. 

Color Tip:
Try printing the outer shell in matte black and the inner piece in metallic gold or silk rainbow. The contrast makes the passthrough effect pop and adds a premium look.
