The AIM-54 long-range air-to-air missile employs radaractive guidanceand boasts an extended range, formidable destructive power, and the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously. This model was the first long-range air-to-air missile developed and deployed by the United States afterWorld War IIand also the world’s first operationalactive radar-guidedair-to-air missile capable of fire-and-forget operations and multi-target engagement. It is along-rangeair-to-air missile. The missile itself, along with its accompanyingairborne fire control system, were both developed by the U.S.-basedHughes Corporation(the predecessor of Hughes Missile Systems).
