Overview:

My wife and I recently learned how to make my mom’s designer soap, but we don’t have some of the fancy tools she does.  I decided to design my own and started with this chamfer tool or soap beveller.

Key features:

• The design includes a replaceable insert that can be swapped out for different profiles or if it wears out.  That way, the whole thing doesn’t have to be reprinted, and you have the flexibility of creating different style edges on your soap.
• There is an integrated drawer to catch the shavings.  We save these and use them as confetti in future batches.

To use, simply run the bar of soap across the fence ensuring the downward edges contacts the raised profile on the insert.  It is similar to grating cheese. 

I’ve also added a version of the base and inserts that have a 100 degree fence angle instead of 90. If your soap bars do not have crisp 90 degree corners, this wider angle version will help the edge reach the profile on the insert.

I’ve included a handful of profiles to get started.  The most common profiles we use are: straight 2.5mm chamfer and a 3.5mm curve.

Printing:

These can printed in any filament.  No supports required if printed in the orientation shown.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

I used this brilliantly simple design by HiRez99 as the insert.  I recreated my own version that is compatible with my base.  Having the base with a drawer makes the process a little easier and conveniently catches the shavings.
