The Gongdao Cup is a traditional porcelain vessel used by the Han Chinese for drinking. A figure of an elderly man or a dragon’s head stands at the center of the cup, with a hollow porcelain tube running internally to connect to a small hole at the base. By leveraging the siphon effect, the cup is designed to overflow and spill when filled beyond capacity—hence its alternative names, the “Nine-Dragon Cup” and the “Greedy Cup.”

When filling this cup with liquor, it must be kept shallow and level; any excess liquid will be drained through the small hole at the bottom.
