I recently built an air quality monitor and designed a sleek Mac‑style enclosure for it, which I then 3D printed.

The back panel features concealed fasteners—once installed, no screws are visible from the exterior.

The enclosure offers ample internal space, allowing for future upgrades such as adding a battery to create a rechargeable version.

Air Quality Monitor Features:

  1. Connects to the internet to fetch current time and date
  2. Connects to the internet to retrieve real‑time weather data for your current city
  3. Displays live readings for room temperature, humidity, TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds), CH₂O (formaldehyde), and carbon dioxide levels
  4. Perpetual calendar
  5. Stress‑relief “Hand Drum Cat” interface

(The circuitry and firmware were developed based on open‑source resources from the expert “Big Smart Second‑Hand Brain.” You can find these electronic design files on Bilibili.)

  • We opted for a side‑up printing orientation to ensure high print quality across every surface.
  • The slicing software automatically generated some support structures that weren’t ideal, so I manually added two additional supports—simply remove them after printing to complete the build.

Building Steps:

  1. 4 M2×6 cross‑head flat‑head self‑tapping screws (used to secure the display screen)
  2. 5 M3×6 cross‑head flat‑head self‑tapping screws with washers (used to mount the Type‑C power port and the rear control buttons)
  3. 1 Type‑C female connector, 2‑pin, soldered and waterproofed
  4. 3 tactile microswitches, 6×6×5 mm
