Southern Song Jade-Imitated Vase

Height: 10 cm, Material: PLA
The “Jade Cong Vase” is actually a misnomer for the “Cong‑Style Vase,” whose design is directly inspired by the jade cong—ritual objects from the Neolithic Liangzhu Culture, characterized by a square exterior, a circular interior, and a central perforation. During the Song Dynasty, driven by a widespread interest in antiquity, scholars and artisans blended the iconic form of the jade cong with porcelain craftsmanship, giving rise to the round‑mouth, square‑bodied vase with a ring‑footed, sealed base known as the Cong‑Style Vase. Historical records from the Southern Song Dynasty do not mention “Jade Cong Vases”; instead, these vessels were commonly referred to as “Cong‑Style Vases” or “Sagittaria Vases.”
