WaDang (eaves tiles) are distinctive decorative elements found at the very front of the ridge tiles on ancient Chinese palace and temple roofs. They serve as the base for the cylindrical roof tiles at the eaves, with circular tiles used as covering tiles and semi‑circular tiles employed as projecting tiles. Early WaDang were adorned with intricate patterns but bore no inscriptions; during the Qin and Han dynasties, some WaDang featured characters, while others retained only ornamental designs.
