If we want to solve the problems with the ribbon cable of our artillery X1, the best option is to wire directly to the board. The purpose of this design is to be able to secure our wiring to the x-axis, it is easy to print, simple to install, and very useful.
Replacing the ribbon cable with direct wiring on the Artillery X1 is a common solution to frequent issues with the stock ribbon cables. This approach eliminates the multiple connection points and adapter boards that are often the source of failures, such as overheating and intermittent connectivity.
Why is this a good solution?
The original Artillery X1 design uses several PCBs and ribbon cables to connect the main board to the extruder on the X-axis. These connectors and the thin ribbon cables themselves can degrade over time due to repeated bending and movement. This leads to common problems like:
- Extruder motor issues: The motor may stop working or behave erratically.
- Thermal runaway: The hotend thermistor or heater may lose connection, leading to an uncontrolled temperature increase.
- Poor print quality: Inconsistent connections can cause artifacts or failed prints.
By directly wiring the components to the main board, you create a more robust and reliable connection. This bypasses the fragile PCBs and ribbon cables entirely, providing a permanent fix for these common issues. This is a popular and effective modification in the 3D printing community for the Artillery X1 and similar printers.
