Centauri Carbon 2 (CC2) Parametric Spool Vault

Overview An engineered, fully parametric drybox system designed to maximize desiccant volume while maintaining a tight, high-speed CoreXY-friendly footprint. Instead of relying on inefficient "D-shaped" boxes that waste corner space and disrupt airflow, this vault utilizes a custom twist-lock bayonet "Silica Donut" that wraps directly around the central spindle's dead space.

Designed natively in OpenSCAD for ultimate modularity. Full .scad source files are included so you can tweak wall thickness, tolerances, and hardware mounts to fit your exact setup.

Key Features

  • The Silica Donut (Twist-Lock Cartridge): A two-piece desiccant reservoir featuring a 15-degree bayonet twist-lock. Slides perfectly over the central spindle, maximizing previously wasted interior space.
  • Spool Holder Ring: For those Spools that fit a little loose on the spindle
  • Airtight TPU Gasket Seal: Engineered slip-fit tolerances and a dedicated gasket channel ensure a hermetic seal to keep high-performance filaments bone dry.
  • PTFE Integration: Features a robust, threaded M10 boss for standard PC4-M10 pneumatic fittings.
  • Integrated Diagnostics: The lid features a custom friction-fit mount for a standard 41.5mm round digital mini-hygrometer, allowing you to monitor internal humidity without opening the vault.
  • Parametric Source Files: Don't like my tolerances? Change them. The included .scad files allow you to generate custom diameters, heights, and locking lugs in seconds.

Hardware Required

  • 4x PC4-M10 Pneumatic Fitting
  • PTFE Bowden Tubing
  • Color-indicating Silica Beads (2mm - 4mm)

Print Guidelines & Slicer Optimizations This model has been heavily optimized to reduce print time on high-speed machines while maintaining structural integrity.

  • Walls/Perimeters: Two walls will work (I used 3 to 4 Wall Loops).
  • Slicer Trick (Save Hours): In your slicer, ensure Gap Fill is set to Nowhere (or drastically increase your Minimum Sparse Infill Threshold). This stops the printer from trying to violently force infill into the microscopic gaps inside the 4mm cylinder walls (if you use 4mm), allowing it to print in smooth, continuous, high-speed circles.
  • Supports: The Lid, the bayonet tray, and the twist-lock cap print 100% Support-Free. Note: You MUST enable supports (internal and external) for the M10 pneumatic boss on the side of the main enclosure.
  • Infill: 15% Grid or Rectilinear for the solid bases.
  • Only required parts for the build are:
    •  Custom length PTFE tubes
    • PC4-M10 (x4)

Assembly Notes:

  • Print the Silica Donut (Base Tray and Cap) flat on the build plate. Fill the tray with silica, drop the cap over the central hub, and give it a 15-degree twist to lock the bayonet lugs. Slide the entire cartridge into the vault, and you are ready to mount.
  • When installing PTFE tubes into PC4-M10 connectors, ensure a bit of the is visibly extending into the enclosure (approx 1mm).  this will aid in feeding filament.
