Four-goat Square Zun (Shang Dynasty Four-Goat Bronze Square Zun)

Basic Information: A bronze vessel used for holding wine and as a ritual object during the late Shang Dynasty (circa the 11th century BCE), excavated in 1938 from the Tanheli site in Ningxiang, Hunan Province. During wartime, it was blown apart into numerous fragments but was later fully restored after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It is now housed in the National Museum of China and is classified as a cultural relic prohibited from being exhibited abroad, widely regarded as “the quintessential masterpiece of Shang Dynasty bronzes.” Specifications: height 58.3 cm, mouth diameter 52.4 cm, weight 34.5 kg—making it the largest surviving Shang Dynasty bronze square zun.
