Basic Introduction
The brain is the core of the central nervous system, located within the cranial cavity, and it controls nearly all of our vital functions, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Main Structures
Cerebral hemispheres: divided into the left and right hemispheres, with numerous folds on the surface known as gyri and sulci, which increase the surface area.
Cerebral cortex: responsible for higher-order functions such as thinking, memory, language, consciousness, vision, and hearing.
Cerebellum: located at the posterior inferior part of the brain, responsible for balance and motor coordination.
Brainstem: connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls basic life-sustaining functions such as breathing, heartbeat, and blood pressure.
Hippocampus: primarily responsible for learning and memory.
