On the Ji River in Zhao County, Hebei Province, there is a world-famous stone arch bridge called Anji Bridge, also known as Zhaozhou Bridge. It was designed and built by Li Chun, a craftsman of the Sui Dynasty, and has been around for more than 1,400 years now.

Zhaozhou Bridge is very majestic. The bridge is more than 50 meters long and more than 9 meters wide. There are horses driving in the middle and people walking on both sides. Such a long bridge is entirely made of stone. There are no bridge piers underneath, only an arched bridge hole that spans a river more than 37 meters wide. There are also two arched small bridge holes on the left and right sides of the top of the bridge hole. In normal times, river water flows through the bridge hole. When floods occur, river water can also flow through four small bridge holes. This design is a pioneering work in the history of bridge construction. It not only reduces the impact of running water on the bridge body, making the bridge less likely to be washed away by flood water, but also reduces the weight of the bridge body and saves stone.

This bridge is not only strong, but also beautiful. There are stone railings on both sides of the bridge deck, and exquisite patterns are carved on the railings: some are carved with two dragons intertwined with each other, spitting beautiful water from their mouths; some are carved with two flying dragons, with their front claws touching each other, looking back and looking at the distance; Others are carved with double dragons playing with beads. All the dragons seem to be swimming, as if they are alive.

Zhaozhou Bridge expresses the outstanding wisdom and talents of the working people and is a precious historical heritage of our country.

河北省赵县的洨河上，有一座世界闻名的石拱桥，叫安济桥，又叫赵州桥。它是隋朝的工匠李春设计和主持建造的，到现在已经有一千四百多年了。

赵州桥非常雄伟。桥长五十多米，有九米多宽，中间行车马，两旁走人。这么长的桥，全部用石头砌成，下面没有桥礅，只有一个拱形的大桥洞，横跨在三十七米多宽的河面上。大桥洞顶上的左右两边，还各有两个拱形的小桥洞。平时，河水从大桥洞流过，发大水的时候，河水还可以从四个小桥洞流过。这种设计，在建桥史上是一个创举，既减轻了流水对桥身的冲击力，使桥不容易被大水冲毁，又减轻了桥身的重量，节省了石料。

这座桥不但坚固，而且美观。桥面两侧有石栏，栏板上雕刻着精美的图案：有的刻着两条相互缠绕的龙，嘴里吐出美丽的水花；有的刻着两条飞龙，前爪相互抵着，各自回首遥望；还有的刻着双龙戏珠。所有的龙似乎都在游动，真像活了一样。

赵州桥表现了劳动人民的杰出智慧和才干，是我国宝贵的历史遗产。
