The swan (scientific name: Cygnus, family Anatidae, tribe Anserini) is a large waterfowl renowned for its slender neck, graceful posture, and lifelong monogamous bonds. Swans are widely distributed across wetland habitats on every continent except Antarctica.
Appearance and Species
Adult swans typically measure 1.2–1.6 meters in length, with wingspans reaching 2–3 meters; most species sport pure white plumage, though there are also distinctive varieties such as the Black Swan (endemic to Australia, with entirely black feathers and a bright red bill) and the Black-necked Swan (native to South America, featuring a white body with a black neck). Commonly encountered species include the Mute Swan, Whooper Swan, Bewick’s Swan, Black Swan, Black-necked Swan, and Trumpeter Swan.
