He was a radiant morning star in the poetic heavens of the Tang Dynasty—a celestial being exiled to earth, born from the lush mountains and tranquil waters of Bashu. This Q‑style statue of young Li Bai sports a traditional Tang-era scholar’s headwrap and flows in an elegant long robe, his brows and eyes brimming with the lively spirit and free‑souled charm of youth.
Back then, he had yet to pen the timeless masterpiece “Raising my cup, I invite the bright moon,” but he had already sown the seeds of poetry amid the verdant hills and emerald rivers of Shu. Riding a white deer across the rugged peaks and winding streams of Bashan and Shu, he allowed his extraordinary imagination to take root at the tip of his brush; he left Shu armed with sword and spirit, his youthful ardor burning bright as he set forth for Chang’an, chasing the winds of the capital and the radiant moons of the Golden Age of Tang. This small statue captures the pure, unadulterated fervor at the very beginning of his poetic journey—the image of a young man untethered by worldly ambitions, utterly devoted to the beauty of mountains, rivers, and words. His pen was his sword; his dreams were his poems; and from that moment of innocent wonder, the very essence of his life would brew into the rich, poetic fragrance that defined the entire glory of the Tang Dynasty.
