This functional 3D print brings the story of Charon, the ferryman of the underworld, into everyday life as a unique piggy bank. In Greek mythology, Charon ferried souls across the river Styx, always reaching out his hand for a coin—the very essence of this design.
The model shows Charon standing at the bow of his boat, staff in one hand and the other outstretched to collect payment. Behind him, a small cabin houses the coin slot, where savings can be deposited as offerings for passage. The boat rides upon stylized waves, completing the scene in a decorative and dramatic way.
A thoughtful feature of this design is the inclusion of small openings at the bottom of the boat, hidden within the wave details. These serve two purposes:
- They increase the interior capacity of the piggy bank, allowing it to store more coins.
- They provide a discreet way to check whether money is inside without opening the bank—a practical and playful touch not often seen in traditional piggy banks.
This makes the Charon Piggy Bank both a functional savings tool and a mythological display piece, offering a perfect blend of storytelling, practicality, and artistry.
