I printed a few guards.  They all worked well, but I just did not like seeing them poking up behind the spool.

I printed this one a bit smaller, with the hole for the spool holder offset a bit.

 

The result is a guard that keeps the spool away from the paint on the printer, but is not visible behind standard sized spools.

 

I have not tried this guard for any other spools except 1 kilogram sized ones.
