The Seven Fairies are a collective term for seven goddesses in ancient Chinese mythology. In some contexts, the term may also refer specifically to the youngest of the seven sisters—the Seventh Fairy.

The origins of the Seven Fairies can be traced to two primary sources: first, astronomical worship, which links them to the Seven Stars of the “Female Host” constellation—also known as the “Basket-Bearing Seven Stars”—as well as the Seven Stars of the “Bright Host” constellation, the Three Stars of the “Ox Host” constellation (including the Star Weaver, or “Weaving Maiden”), and the Four Stars of the “Wu Female” constellation. Second, the imagery of feathered immortals emerged during the Qin and Han dynasties, influenced by the widespread belief in ascending to immortality.

In folk tradition, these seven sisters are commonly referred to as: the First Fairy, the Second Fairy, the Third Fairy, the Fourth Fairy, the Fifth Fairy, the Sixth Fairy, and the Seventh Fairy—who secretly married Dong Yong.
