The Chow Chow (scientific name: Canis lupus familiaris; English name: Chow Chow) is an ancient Chinese dog breed with origins dating back to the Han Dynasty (226 BCE–220 CE). Initially bred in northern China, it is also known as the “Bear‑Lion Dog.” With its distinctive appearance and a loyal, calm temperament, the Chow Chow was cherished as a beloved companion by emperors and nobles in ancient times.
