The AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM), known in English as the AIM-120, is a fourth-generation medium‑range air-to-air missile developed by the United States.

The AIM-120 is a fully all‑weather, omnidirectional, active radar–guided air-to-air missile jointly developed by the U.S. Air Force and Navy. It is powered by a solid propellant rocket motor and equipped with a high‑explosive fragmentation warhead. The missile comes in four variants—A, B, C, and D—and can be deployed on platforms such as the F-14D, F-15, F-16, F/A-18C/F, F-22, and F-35, ensuring that it meets the U.S. Air Force and Navy’s operational requirements through 2024.

Development of the AIM-120 began in 1975, with low‑rate production initiated in June 1987. The missile entered service with the U.S. Air Force in 1991 and with the U.S. Navy in 1993. The AIM-120A served as the baseline model, with a total of 5,150 units produced before production ceased in December 1994. Delivery of the AIM-120B commenced in 1994, while the AIM-120C entered service in 1997. By 2005, Raytheon had delivered 14,000 AIM-120 missiles, achieving a peak annual production rate of 1,100 units during the eighth production batch.
