The Millennium Academy—Shigu Academy—is regarded as the foremost of China’s Four Great Academies during the Song Dynasty. With a history spanning over 1,200 years, it stands as a pivotal birthplace of “Huxiang Culture.”

Shigu Academy is nestled atop Shigu Mountain, where the Zengshui, Xiangjiang, and Leishui rivers converge in the northern part of Hengyang City. Its unique geographical location offers both seclusion from the hustle and bustle while remaining conveniently close to the city—a perfect setting for renowned scholars to impart wisdom and for aspiring students to pursue their studies. Among the academy’s illustrious figures are Li Kuan, the founding patriarch; Han Yu, the philosopher and literary master; Li Shizhen; Zhou Dunyi, the eminent Neo-Confucian thinker; Zhu Xi; Zhang Shi; and Huang Gan. Over the millennia, this enduring cultural legacy and time‑honored traditions have nurtured countless outstanding individuals—including Peng Yulin and Xia Minghan, who emerged as exemplary graduates of Shigu Academy and made significant contributions to the development of the nation and society.

Throughout the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, Shigu Academy endured for more than a thousand years. In his “Record of Shigu Academy in Hengzhou,” Zhu Xi meticulously chronicled the academy’s history—from its establishment through the Chunxi era of the Southern Song Dynasty, a span of over three centuries. The academy attracted countless literati and scholars eager to climb its halls and compose works, establishing itself as a prominent center for the dissemination of Confucian thought across the Huxiang region.

The Shigu Academy Lantern—Fei Character Light and Shadow Lantern—is crafted with a circular design. The front features a relief sculpture of Shigu Academy, while the back showcases a luminous depiction of the “Fu” character. All components are fully printable; the central light source uses a single red LED, which can be purchased online according to your specifications. When installing, ensure that the LED bead is aligned precisely at the center of the artwork and the Fu character.

To ensure optimal visual effects on all sides, the print was divided into four separate layers, each printed with the front facing upward. Layer one features a multicolored print in white, blue, red, and yellow; the remaining layers can be printed in single colors or multiple hues, depending on your personal preference. After printing, the various surfaces are joined using adhesive (such as 502 glue).
