Atari 2600 Display Stand

About

This display stand is made to hold the Atari 2600 Console in an upright position while providing you with a slot to stow the hardwired cable and two slots to display cartridges in either an upright or sideways position. I am providing this stand in two forms:

  1. with the Atari logo and branding embossed on the stand itself
  2. with cutouts for the Atari logo and branding. The Atari branding and logo are included so that you can print them separately in a second color.

In the photos provided you will see the stand is printed in a black Elegoo PLA-CF and the branding is printed in a red PLA. Also included is a test print where the plate and lettering are printed in a blue PETG. Take a close look at the lettering. I printed this face down on a flat plate to achieve that starred effect on the lettering.

Size

  • Overall: 215mm wide by 115mm deep (not including lettering) by 125mm high at the highest
  • Cartridge slots: 102mm wide by 22mm deep by 16mm deep. Yes, these could have been a lot tighter but original cartridges are getting old and I didn't want the stand rubbing against them. Cartridge vanity blah blah.

Why is this model 215mm wide? Because 215mm fits neatly between the little stubby legs on the bottom of the console helping to hold the console in place.

Printing

The example I have documented in the included photos is printed with Elegoo Black PLA-CF and Elegoo Matte Red PLA. The blue sample is printed in Elegoo Rapid PETG and is an earlier state of the project where I was testing friction fits.

I would advise using PLA for the lettering.

If you are printing the form of this stand with the separate lettering, you should expect the lettering to friction fit. Frankly, the fit can be a bit tight. You may or may not choose to use a little CA glue to affix the lettering in place long term. I have not elected to do this at the time of publishing this model but am open to it in the future if I get bored and decided to spend some quality time obsessing over the precision used in setting the lettering.

WARNINGS

  1. DO NOT BASH THE PRINTED MODEL IN AN ATTEMPT TO SET THE LETTERING. Hulk no smash!
  2. Do NOT opt for the form of this stand with the friction-fit lettering if you are easily frustrated. Tolerances are tight and I imagine there are some folks out there who might become enraged by the task.
