  • Longquan Kiln: Located in present-day Longquan City, Zhejiang Province, the Longquan Kiln was the most important celadon kiln system in Southern China during the Song Dynasty. With a firing history spanning several centuries, it reached its zenith during the Southern Song period, producing wares that were exported far and wide, both domestically and abroad.

  • Fenqing Glaze: This is one of the iconic glaze colors pioneered by the Longquan Kiln during the Southern Song era. Characterized by a hue that lies between blue and green, the glaze has a milky, slightly opaque texture with a warm, jade-like finish. Its color is soft and understated—like the faint ripples of blue that shimmer across the surface of a clear lake—bestowing a delicate, powdery elegance upon the piece. Hence the name “Fenqing,” or “Powder Blue.” It is among the most highly regarded glaze varieties in Longquan celadon.

  • Douli Bowl: A bowl shape named for its resemblance to an inverted straw hat. The douli bowl is distinguished by its broad mouth, gently sloping straight walls, and small, ringed foot—the overall form featuring clean, fluid lines that are both refined and strikingly modern. This vessel type enjoyed immense popularity during the Song Dynasty and was deeply cherished by scholars and literati of the time.

  • The design of the douli bowl eschews all superfluous ornamentation, relying instead on simple, smooth, and precisely defined lines to convey its aesthetic appeal. It embodies the Song Dynasty’s philosophical principle of “the greatest simplicity is the highest form”—a restrained, understated yet elegantly sophisticated artistic style.
