Gregory I the Great – Bust
Gregory I, better known as Gregory the Great, is one of the most influential popes in the history of the Church. Born around 540 and elected pope in 590, he deeply shaped the early Middle Ages through his religious reforms, diplomatic influence, and lasting spiritual legacy. A remarkable theologian, writer, and administrator, he is also traditionally associated with Gregorian chant, which still bears his name today.
This 3D printed bust is inspired by the most iconic depictions of Gregory I, particularly the great Renaissance and Baroque religious paintings portraying him receiving divine inspiration, often accompanied by the dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit. The sculptural interpretation faithfully captures the defining features of the figure: the intense gaze, deep facial lines, strong facial volumes, and richly detailed papal garments. The carved forms and pronounced structure emphasize the solemn and spiritual presence of the pope in a classical style specifically designed for 3D printing.
