Xenomorphic Light

A biomechanical-inspired tealight holder that pays homage to H.R. Giger's iconic alien aesthetic. This original design captures the essence of his distinctive organic-meets-industrial style through flowing curves and intricate details, creating an atmospheric lighting piece that glows from within.

Printed in two parts : a detailed base and translucent cranium that diffuses led candlelight.

It's my own interpretation of H.R. Giger's biomechanical aesthetic ….oblivously not a copy of any specific movie creature, just my take on that distinctive style. If there's interest and this design gets good traction, I might create a follow-up version closer to the classic Aliens look with a more elongated head that accommodates multiple tealights.

Technical Notes

Achieving the Look:

1. Print the base in black matte filament
2. Dry brush with silver paint for highlights (takes 2-3 minutes, can't really mess it up - Google "dry brushing" if unfamiliar)
3. Spray with gloss clear coat
4. Add UHU glue for saliva effect
5. Print the headpiece top in translucent filament (I used clear PETG, but Bambu Lab translucent yellow PLA would have been my go-to choice)

How the Model Was Created: 

1. I started with a basic triangle and cylinder, then dynameshed it down in ZBrush for blocking. Used the move brush to get everything positioned right.
2. The horns were created using the snake hook brush.
3. Here's the secret sauce for all the biomechanical detailing: Google "alien VDM brushes for ZBrush" - that's it. If you know ZBrush, you're 90% done as these brushes do all the heavy lifting. Easy to get carried away though, so less is more with all those tubes.
4. The mouth is a little tricky - Google mouth tutorials for ZBrush if you are interested in learning.
5. Finally, used some boolean operations to get the head piece to fit properly and create the tealight cavity.
