Xuanfeng often encounters a critical issue: cage explosions.

Xuanfeng is quite timid and easily startled. There are two main causes of cage explosions: first, sudden fright from flying insects or other creatures; second, birds accidentally lose their grip while dozing off and fall from the perch. Combined with the darkness at night, when the birds can’t see clearly, cage explosions become even more likely—resulting in mild panic or, in severe cases, injuries, bleeding, and stress-induced death. One of my own parrots once had a cage explosion that snapped a flight feather on its wing, leaving blood scattered all over the floor (fortunately, it was rescued).

Therefore, cage explosions are a serious concern, and we can reduce their occurrence by taking the following measures:

1. Avoid making arbitrary changes to the cage’s interior layout.

2. Replace perches with larger, thicker ones, or install dedicated parrot platforms, to prevent birds from losing their grip and falling off during sleep.

That’s why I designed this model: its compact size is just right for a single cockatiel to rest comfortably on top. It prints quickly, features a robust structure, and even includes an integrated mechanism that automatically moves backward when triggered by the bird’s droppings, helping to push waste off the platform and keep it clean.
