  • Infrared leds

Simple Head tracking device, you will need Basic Soldering supply's and of couse experience, all the materials needed are in the BOM, This is not a standalone device for head tracking, you will still need an Infrared Camera, i personally used the Sony PlayStation Eye Camera PS3 togheter with OpenTrack.

Electical configuration is:

led -- Resistor ----\
                                  \
led -- Resistor -----+---- Battery pack
                                  /
led -- Resistor ----/

In the point where the + is I recommend joining all positive and negatives, then joining the battery pack to the joints solder points via the hole in the back of the device, the you can use glue or in my case a piece of adhesive to attach the battery pack to the side of the device

To attach it to your headset there are holes where you can pass zip ties in it, the zip ties are not the most elegant solution but it is the most universal one considering the dimensions and size of all headsets

PS: The second photo is a variation of the model im uploding so it would fit my headset nicely

This is a short video of me using it while flying around in Elite Dangerous (Bear in mind that you have to tune it in open track to move like you want it)

  • 1
    Infrared Leds
    3
I used TSHF5410 as they are the best for this type of application, if you use other ensure they have a good relative radiant intensity vs angular displacement (check in the datasheet of the leds you wanna use for this information)
  • 2
    resistors of 22omh
    3
Lowest commercialy avaible resistors closest to the value i calculated for my Leds and configuration (18omh), if you use other leds you might need to change the value of the resistors, although i think this value should be fine for pretty much any IF led

Double AAA Battery Holder with on and off switch

The whole device is powered by 2 AAA battery
  • 4
    Zip ties

Needed to fix the device to the headset
