Pipe Plug – Friction Fit with Bolt Mount

Introduction
This model is a 2-inch cylindrical pipe plug designed for a snug, friction-based fit inside a pipe. It includes a central hole for a bolt and an internal hex cavity to capture a nut, allowing the plug to be mounted or secured in place.

Inspiration
The design was inspired by simple mechanical pipe plugs used for temporary sealing and mounting applications. The goal was to create a quick, easy-to-print solution that fits tightly without requiring complex expansion mechanisms.

Printing Requirements

  • Material: PLA (tested), PETG recommended for improved durability
  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Infill: 15% (increase if additional strength is needed)
  • Supports: None required
  • Print Time: ~20 minutes
  • Material Usage: ~10g
  • Inner hole: ~6.2mm
  • Inner Hex: ~13mm

Assembly Instructions

  1. Insert a hex nut into the cavity.
  2. Press-fit the plug into the pipe.
  3. Insert a bolt through the center hole and thread into the nut if mounting is needed.
  4. Tighten lightly—this design is not intended for high-torque expansion.

Notes / Limitations

  • Designed primarily as a friction-fit plug, not a true expansion plug
  • Avoid over-tightening, especially when printed in PLA, as this may cause cracking
  • Best suited for light-duty or mounting applications
