I recently purchased an entry‑level air plant, but the stingy seller was reluctant to include a base—and even the base they did provide was little more than a cold, metallic wire spring that ended up hogging precious desk space. So I designed this magnetic air plant base: it can easily attach to metal pegboards, refrigerators, and other ferromagnetic surfaces, while also doubling as a stylish desktop accent to bring a touch of fresh greenery into your workspace.

The base has an inner diameter of roughly 30 mm, making it compatible with standard air plants sold in packs of three for just 9.9 yuan—perfect for beginners. The overall dimensions are about 80 x 30 x 25 mm, small enough to be printed on most compact desktop printers.
The lower half of the bracket features a lattice structure that ensures optimal airflow, creating an ideal environment for plant growth.
To install the magnets, simply insert two 10 x 3 mm neodymium magnets into the pre‑drilled slots using needle‑nose pliers. If your magnets aren’t perfectly sized—or if they’re slightly smaller—you may need to secure them with adhesive.

This is the third iteration of the design, refined based on real‑world feedback from the first two versions: 1) A thoughtful little handle has been added to the bracket for easier handling; 2) The edges have been thickened, reducing the risk of breakage when removing the base after printing.

We recommend printing with PETG, though PLA works well too—and offers an even more polished aesthetic.
