Create a Personalized NFC Dog Tag

Personalizing a dog tag with an NFC tag is simple and fun! Follow these steps to add custom text to the back of your dog tag.

Step 1: Select the Model

• Start by selecting your desired dog tag model.
• Add the text shape and rotate the model so that you’re viewing it from the bottom.

Step 2: Insert and Customize the Text

• Insert your text and choose a thick font. Thick characters work best since they’ll be printed on the first 2 layers of the model.
• Set the Thickness to 0.
• Align the text to the center manually (no automatic alignment option here).
• Set Embedded Depth to 0.4. This depth will create 2 layers for the text, ensuring it prints well.

Step 3: Change the Text Color

• Go to the Objects panel and open the text shape.
• The text will appear the same color as the bone. Change it to your desired color to make it stand out.
• Afterward, your design should look like this:

Step 4: Slice the Plate

• Once you're happy with your design, slice the plate. The settings selected are optimized for clear, sharp text on the first layer, based on my previous models.

Recommended Print Settings:

• Layer Height: 0.20 mm
• Initial Layer Width: 0.32 mm
• Wall Generator: Arachne
• Wall Transition Angle: 30°
• Bottom Surface Pattern: Monotonic
• Detect Narrow Internal Infill: ✅
• Text Clarity Tip: Ensure letters and icons are at least 2 wall widths wide.
• Flow Rate: Calibrate for optimal results.

You should notice the text now has more than 2 lines of filament, which is exactly what you want for clarity and durability.

Step 5: Print

• You can print by object or layer, depending on your preference. I've printed by object, but either way will work.
