Twist - Forma Vase Collection

Inspired by the quiet force of a fold caught mid-motion, Twist explores pure sculptural gesture as part of the Forma Vase Collection, a series dedicated to form as the subject. The piece drapes and folds back on itself like a piece of silk caught in the wind, a single asymmetric twist that rises from a wide base into a softly curled rim. Printed in vase mode and finished with fuzzy skin, the surface carries a quiet suede texture that softens every edge into shadow.

Design & Concept

I designed Twist as a meditation on what a single fold can become when you let it unwind across an entire object. The Forma Vase Collection is about form itself, with no decoration and no narrative bolted on, just sculptural gestures frozen in solid material. For Twist, I wanted the body to feel like fabric finding its own balance: the rim curls inward as if catching the wind, the waist torques in one direction, and the base flares back the other way. Printed in vase mode with fuzzy skin enabled on the contour, the matte olive surface reads almost like suede in person, soft to the eye and warm to the touch.

• Single-Part Print: No supports, no assembly, no extra hardware. The vase comes off the bed ready to display.

Printing Recommendations

• Walls / Perimeters: 1. A single perimeter is the defining setting for vase mode.
• Top Shell Layers: 0. The rim stays open, as a vase rim should.
• Bottom Shell Layers: 10. A thicker floor gives the asymmetric base the rigidity it needs to hold the rest of the form upright.
• Vase Mode (Spiralize Outer Contour): Enabled. This is the signature setting of the print and must be active to reproduce the continuous spiral toolpath.
• Fuzzy Skin: Contour. The signature finish of this print, applied to the outer surface to give it its suede texture.
• Fuzzy Skin Point Distance: 0.2mm. Dense enough to read as a uniform texture without losing the underlying curve.
• Infill: 100%. In vase mode this affects only the bottom layers.
• Supports: Not required.
• Reinforcement Wall: Disabled.
• Reduce Speed for Overhangs: Disabled. The print runs at constant speed throughout to keep the spiral seam consistent.
