Design

This design combines the courtyard walls of Suzhou gardens with elements symbolizing good fortune for the Year of the Snake.

  1. Body
    Suzhou Garden Courtyard Wall Reference

The brick tiles at the top have been replaced with a softer, more cushioned texture that better suits the bag’s aesthetic.

  2. The main doorway is a moon gate, its shape resembles a full moon, which in Chinese culture has long symbolized reunion and harmony.

  3. Bamboo was chosen for the doorway, carrying the auspicious meaning of good luck and peace

Bamboo Brings Peace: Bamboo has traditionally been regarded as an emblem of good fortune. The phrase “bamboo brings peace” has deep historical roots, signifying enduring health and tranquility. In ancient times, people would burn bamboo to ward off evil spirits; this practice later evolved into the custom of setting off firecrackers, embodying hopes for safety and well-being.

Longevity and Well-being: With its evergreen foliage and tenacious vitality, bamboo symbolizes longevity. Its persistent growth has inspired aspirations for a long and healthy life.

  4. Above the doorway hangs a plaque featuring Pan-Hui pattern (chosen because this is the Year of the Snake), originally derived fromCentral Plains Treasures 239—Pangzhi Guanyi—Henan Museum

  • In the Pan-Hui pattern, the “Hui” refers to a small snake.Bronze vessels adorned with the Pan-Hui pattern also carried symbolic significance. Those who owned such decorated bronzes were typically members of higher social strata, reflecting their distinguished status and wealth.

   5. The lock mechanism incorporates the traditional auspicious “Fu” character, symbolizing the fulfillment of wishes.
