I’ve long been troubled by the feeling of having my lower back unsupported while sitting—no matter how many lumbar support cushions I tried, none quite worked. As someone who’s both large in build and tall in stature, I decided to take this opportunity to design my own solution. I originally planned to incorporate electrically powered support, but with the motor still unfinished and time running short, I’m sharing the design as-is for now. If there’s enough interest, I’ll add an electric lumbar adjustment system later on—let’s see how everyone responds first!

Many people worry about quality—but rest assured! I’m a hefty 200 pounds myself, and after testing it out over several days, I can confidently say it provides ample support without any issues. Since I factored in the inherent brittleness of 3D‑printed parts from the very beginning, I carefully avoided potential weak points during the design phase. From the structural layout to the infill patterns and even the orientation of the print layers, everything was optimized to achieve the strongest, most resilient performance possible with PETG material. So feel free to print and use it with confidence!

3. Installation Is Relatively Simple

The final step is to secure the back panel—simply bend the panel into place and snap it into the slots on the base.

4. Key Design Enhancements:

The back panel is printed in a straight-line configuration, maximizing structural integrity while ensuring durability and resistance to bending—so it won’t deform under load, offering robust support with optimal strength.

After printing the massage balls, simply apply adhesive to affix them in place. While it would be possible to print the balls as part of the main structure, doing so could compromise the back panel’s strength—so we recommend assembling them separately for better results.

If you don’t care for the massage balls, you can easily remove them and still enjoy full functionality.
