Hollow‑cup motor mini fan, with adjustable speed

 

I. Design Inspiration

This desktop mini‑fan model is specially designed for hollow‑cup motors. It features an integrated protective mesh cover and stand, combining safety protection with a retro desk‑decor aesthetic. It’s ideal for STEAM DIY projects, offering a clear visual demonstration of how small motors operate and how speed can be adjusted.

 

 

II. 3D Printing and Materials

The housing and stand are printed using PLA filament, which offers excellent toughness and easy molding. The protective mesh adopts a perforated spoke design, avoiding large overhanging surfaces; only minor supports are added at the small rounded edges. A 0.1 mm assembly gap is left between the mesh cover and base, ensuring convenient assembly.

 

III. Hardware and Speed Control

It incorporates a built-in hollow‑cup motor, paired with a speed‑control driver board and powered by a 14500 lithium battery. A rotary knob allows stepless speed adjustment. The base includes dedicated spaces for the circuit board and battery. With its compact form factor, this project makes a practical addition to your desk—perfect for cooling or as an engaging electronics DIY endeavor.
