AI Robot Shell with Rotating Base

I. Design Inspiration

Drawing inspiration from the rounded design of household smart cameras and combining it with the concept of a compact desktop companion robot, this design features a circular body paired with an adjustable, tiltable rotating base. Its petite and endearing appearance makes it ideal for placement on desks, while supporting simple human–machine interaction DIY projects. It is compatible with ESP-series microcontrollers and small OLED displays.

II. 3D Printing Requirements

For the shell, PLA filament is recommended due to its ease of printing and resistance to warping. The screen cutout and screw posts should have a wall thickness of 2 mm, while a 0.2-mm assembly clearance is provided at the base’s pivot point. Avoid large overhanging curved surfaces; only add minimal supports at small rounded edges as needed to reduce print failures. Photopolymerization-based printing is even more advisable.

III. Hardware Assembly Structure

The base incorporates a miniature pivot that enables the body to tilt and rotate. The internal cavity includes dedicated spaces for a lithium battery and circuit board, while a front-facing opening accommodates a 1.01-inch LCD display. With appropriate code, the device can display emotive animations and provide battery-level notifications, enabling intelligent interactive functionality.
