The outcomes of offline learning—after tracing a model calligraphy copy and then practicing simple line drawings—are exercises that strengthen one’s fundamental skills. As for the cactus theme, I feel truly impressed: in an environment as harsh as the desert, it can not only protect itself but also thrive, growing plump and healthy. Capturing this feeling in a work is what led to “The Resilient Heart Calligraphy and Painting Tube.”
