For testing the TD value of translucent embossments, align the test specimen directly with the light source, count the number of visible pinholes, then multiply that number by 0.8 to obtain the desired TD value for translucent embossments.

For testing the TD value of color stacking, place the test specimen on a white or black platform—depending on the base color of the test specimen—then count the number of visible pinholes; this value represents the maximum allowable number of layers for color stacking.
