The inspiration came from a retractable sun umbrella—the joint where the umbrella ribs connect to the canopy. On my return home for the May Day holiday, I noticed that this area was mostly deformed or even broken, which prompted me to design a replacement part. The CAD model consists of two symmetrical halves that are later glued together, eliminating the need for any supports.
