The Yazi Sword, one of China’s Ten Famous Swords from ancient times, was also among the renowned blades forged by the celebrated swordsmith Qiu Se during the Spring and Autumn period. The sword guard and pommel are intricately engraved with the mythical beast motif of Yazi.

Ancient historical records describe Yazi as a creature with an insatiable appetite for killing and fighting—possessing a fierce, impetuous nature, bold and aggressive in combat, and driven by a bloodthirsty desire to slay. It is said that Yazi would always carry a precious sword in its mouth, glaring fiercely with piercing eyes. As the saying goes, “A kindness received must be repaid, and an offense incurred must be avenged”—and such vengeance inevitably involves bloodshed. Thus, Yazi came to symbolize the eradication of all evil.
