Design Concept

The smartphone panning rig features a colorful, multi-hued aesthetic that adds visual interest, along with a well-thought-out structural design that delivers flexible functionality and ease of use. It can also be used as a standard smartphone holder.

Applications

Primarily designed to secure a smartphone for panning shots, it is ideal for video recording and creating time-lapse sequences.

Printing Recommendations

We recommend using PLA or ABS filament with a layer height of 0.2 mm. Support structures must be enabled to ensure the stability of critical components.

Assembly Instructions

After printing all the parts, a simple assembly is required. The most critical areas to address are the wheels and axle, as the friction between the printed plastic components and the print bed is relatively low, which can cause slippage. To mitigate this, apply a ring of rubber or another high-friction material around the wheels. I used a 5-mm-wide rubber band, cutting it into short segments and securing them with adhesive; alternatively, you can use disposable hair ties wrapped tightly around the wheels. When in use, place the subject at the center of the shooting frame and manually rotate the platform to achieve smooth panning shots.
