Product Positioning
Specifically designed for guppy breeding, addressing the pain point of fry escaping from the bottom of the spawning tank in empty tanks. The bottom-open/leak-proof design achieves “parent fish isolation + fry retention,” making it suitable for use in empty tanks, quarantine tanks, and other scenarios.
Core Design (Addressing Key Pain Points)
- Leak-Proof Bottom Mesh: The bottom of the spawning compartment features a fine mesh/honeycomb perforation (aperture ≤ 2 mm), allowing water flow while blocking fry (body length ≥ 5 mm) from escaping, while still permitting adult guppies to move freely within the compartment.
- Hanging/Securing Mechanism: A adjustable clamp (such as the black knob shown in the diagram) secures the device to the tank rim, accommodating different tank wall thicknesses and ensuring stable suspension when used in empty tanks.
- Space Partitioning: The spawning compartment is divided into a parent fish zone (upper section) + fry zone (lower section), with a slope/partition serving as a transition to prevent parent fish from stepping on or trampling the fry.
- Material Safety: Made from food-grade PLA/ABS, non-toxic, water-resistant, and resistant to deformation even after prolonged immersion.
Structural Details (Refer to the Yellow Spawning Compartment in the Diagram)
- Top Opening: Allows parent fish to enter the spawning compartment; the opening edge is rounded to prevent injury to the fish.
- Central Partition: Equipped with a slanted guide plate to direct fry downward while preventing parent fish from passing through.
- Bottom Mesh: Aperture of 2 mm (or smaller), allowing only water to pass while trapping fry—especially newly hatched fry no larger than the tip of a needle—inside the compartment.
- Side Perforations: Breathable holes on both sides ensure adequate dissolved oxygen while reducing the overall weight of the device.
Application Scenarios (Breeding in Empty Tanks)
- Empty Tank Preparation: Fill the empty tank with water to an appropriate level, submerging the bottom of the spawning compartment to ensure proper water circulation.
- Inserting the Spawning Compartment: Secure the compartment to the tank wall using the clamp and adjust its height so that the bottom is 10–15 cm above the tank floor, facilitating fry movement.
- Introducing the Parent Fish: Place gravid guppies into the spawning compartment; internal structural constraints keep the parent fish confined to the upper section, while newly born fry drop into the lower section, preventing predation by the parents.
- Fry Separation: Once the fry reach a size of more than 5 mm (or when the parent fish no longer exhibit aggressive behavior), open the spawning compartment to remove the fry and transfer them to a separate rearing tank.
Optimization Suggestions (Addressing “Fry Escaping from the Bottom”)
- If fry are still escaping from the bottom of the existing spawning compartment, consider adding an additional layer of fine mesh (e.g., nylon mesh with 1-mm apertures) at the inner bottom of the compartment for double protection against leakage.
- Adjust the bottom mesh density: If the fry are very small (e.g., newly hatched), reduce the mesh aperture to 1 mm, balancing water flow with leak prevention.
- Add a bottom cushioning layer: Lay a layer of soft filter cotton at the bottom of the spawning compartment (to be replaced regularly), which not only prevents leakage but also traps impurities.
