  • CC2 Side-Mounted Filament Sealing Box

Addressing the issue of exposed, multi‑color consumables in the CC2’s side‑hanging system—which are prone to moisture absorption—this design introduces a sealed box specifically tailored for side‑hanging filament storage. The box consists of a main body, a lid, and three snap‑fit clips, all 3D printed. The box features left‑right symmetry, with slot‑type mounting holes that ensure compatibility across four spool slots. The lid is equipped with secure snap‑locks for quick and easy opening and closing. An observation window has been strategically carved into the top of the box, allowing users to easily monitor remaining filament. The inner surface of the lid includes dedicated cable tie slots, which can be used to securely fasten desiccant packets in bagged form. Practical testing has demonstrated that the box enables precise, centered rotation of the filament spools while maintaining universal compatibility across all four slots. After installing a single 100g desiccant packet, filament dispensing remains smooth and uninterrupted, with no signs of jamming or obstruction. This design effectively addresses the challenges of sourcing suitable filament containers and the hassle associated with secondary processing, offering a reliable and reproducible solution for filament sealing—and providing valuable insights for 3D printing enthusiasts worldwide.

Here are a few key points to note:

1. While the box is designed for use with CC2’s side‑hanging filament packaging, its sealing performance is certainly not as robust as that of a dedicated food container;

2. The mounting holes and excess material outlets can be sealed with adhesive tape; however, we recommend using glue and transparent materials to enhance airtightness for optimal results;

3. The lid can accommodate two 100g desiccant packets secured with cable ties—measuring approximately 80mm x 100mm—taking care to ensure proper alignment during installation to prevent entanglement with the filament spool’s rotating axle;

4. The box is mounted beneath the filament spool’s fixed mounting plate, featuring specially designed mounting slots that allow users to adjust the orientation of the dispensing outlet based on the specific setup, thereby preventing filament tangling or snags;

5. So far, only one prototype has been printed for testing purposes; no other issues have been identified yet. We welcome feedback from users so we can continue refining the design.
